Hey #FGTTCommunity! Do you know what today is?! It's #WanderCrushWednesday *cue confetti* Today, we're featuring the Queen of Microcations @FrannyTheTraveler 1. What has been your favorite vacation thus far? This is a tough question because I love every trip that I take for different reasons! If I have to choose though, it would be Egypt. Going to Egypt was my childhood dream come true. Becoming obsessed with Egypt in 6th grade history class and high school global history, it still feels like a dream that I got to explore one of the first world civilizations. I was just amazed by its architecture and history! Egypt was also where I got engaged, which makes it extra special for me! 2. What or who inspired you to become the "Microcation Queen"? I coined that term after coming across a few online travel articles that describe “microcations” as the new wave. When I read them, I realized, “OMG, this is literally me!” My microcation-traveling ways started off due to a lack of flexibility that I have with time because I am an Assistant Principal, which means that my days off line up with the school calendar. I would either get a long weekend or a week off for break, both of which are not vacation times. Over time, it’s something that I have opted into. I love the challenge of planning a trip where I can get a good overview of a city in a short period of time. You would be surprised how much you can fit into a 4-day trip! 3. What's the most difficult part of traveling as a plus-sized woman? The most difficult part of traveling as a plus-sized woman is the airplane seats! For me, I have less of an issue of asking for an extra belt when needed because safety comes first! The issue is more about comfortably fitting into a plane seat, especially if I am in the middle. I had a particularly rough experience traveling to India where I spent 14 hours being super uncomfortable in my plane seat trying to sit in an exit room, hips smooshed against the seat dividers, with friends who wanted extra leg room. On the flight back, I spoke up for myself and asked for a different seat. However, that led not only to pushback, but also outright disrespect at a kiosk before being able to convince a flight attendant to switch my seat while already on-board the plane. 4. Top 3 travel essentials?
A practical tip is to use packing cubes and an organizer for toiletries! As a plus size woman, it is often a struggle to pack into a carry-on because our clothes are just bigger. We cannot avoid our clothes being bigger than many travelers, but we can plan around it! I managed to pack for a 10-day West Coast road trip using packing cubes! A motivational tip is to not let your plus size dim your light when traveling. If anything, we have more to offer-- more curves, more fluffy, more surface area. We have the right to enjoy traveling just like anyone else. We belong in these spaces. You also never know who you may inspire by living your best plus-size travel life! 6. Where can we find you online? You can find me online on the following platforms:
Now the game is super simple. Just choose THIS or THAT. Photo or Boomerang (Boomerangs will probably phase out, but a photo is forever!) Hotel or AirBNB (I like the luxury of someone cleaning the room every day!) Beach or Pool (I have always wondered what is the purpose of a pool if there is a natural beach, no chemicals!) Solo travel or Group Travel (Solo is just less drama and more liberating!)
